NopeSport Scottish Sprint Orienteering Championships - Riccarton

NopeSport organised the event at Riccarton - Heriot Watt University. The format was a prologue followed by a final. I ran in the M40+ class which had the same course as everybody else. The prologue was 2.9k with 45m of climb and 19 controls, and the final was 3.3k with 50m of climb and 19 controls. Both courses took me 19 minutes, with my final time giving me victory in my class and 7th overall. This was the first sprint race I have done in an "urban" setting, which combined with unfamiliar map symbols took me out of my orienteering "comfort zone"! The event was well planned and great fun, and has left me with a really positive view of sprint orienteering - not something I have always had!

What was option of going straight to number 1 using the steps and coming in from other side than you did?

Hi Gross,

I was trying to go north of the line to number 1 in the final, but got caught up in some fencing which pushed me onto the southerly route.

Great venue for a sprint!

Cheers.
