Bethecar Moor lies between Windermere and Coniston in the southern Lake District and although open fell, provides a good technical challenge. I ran M50L which was 6.9k with 310m of climb and 14 controls.

Leg 7-8 looked a good one - what was your thought process on your final route choice?

Bethecar Moor is a good area and a good map (made by Martin Bagness - former GB runner and coach), and, even though there wasn't any lying snow, the ground was frozen in places.
7-8 was a good leg and took me 13:13 - the fastest split on my course was 12:46 by Andy Hyslop. My route was influenced by the fact that the terrain was heavy going in places - the marshes were wet and elsewhere there was dead bracken and tussocky grass! I decided to use the path (to the west of the line) as much as possible, but once on it found it difficult to follow. Half way along the leg, I left the path and went west to save climb.
My wife had a similar leg, starting ca 200m to the north west of 7 and then going to my 8. She went right and, much to my annoyance, was quicker than me!
I guess a lot depended, as you say, on how runnable the paths were in contrast to how boggy the marshes were.
I looked at the easterly route as being the other obvious possibility and wondered....
