Injuries have curtailed my orienteering recently, but despite ongoing niggles, I was able to participate in the 5 Days of Dolomites based on Primiero in northern Italy.
Italy is one of my favourite countries and Primiero one of the areas in it that I like most, so an opportunity to return and orienteer there was not to be missed; especially since JWOC was taking place at the same time and the programme carefully scheduled to allow 5 Days runners to spectate at the junior races.
The event was also an opportunity to catch up with old friends and I was particularly pleased to bump into Norwegian mapmaker, Ivar Helegesen, who I hadn't seen in over 30 years and whose family had been particularly kind to me when I visited Norway as a teenager.
At Primiero I ran M50-2 which had a strong field with more than one former world champion.
