It was great to return to Coull after ca 20 years and to run a course, planned by Roger Coombs, which made really good use of the area. I ran M50L which was 7.3k with 330m of climb and 17 controls.
Looking at your route from 7-8. Just before the control you go straight through a high fence. Was there a gate? How did you know that it would be crossable?
I am obviously too cautious. I have come across several deer fences that have been in a poor state of repair, with loose posts that make them un-climbable without risk of damage.
When possible, I climb them at a straining post which are usually more firmly set in the ground than ordinary posts. The wire tends to be more securely fixed to the strainers too, which also helps.
I am an enthusiastic orienteer who runs for Forth Valley Orienteers in Scotland. I began orienteering nearly 40 years ago when at school in Cheshire and currently compete in the M55 age class.
This site is a record of my orienteering exploits, with occasional forays into my other hobbies of telemark skiing and watching wildlife.

I knew it would be a deer fence and have had plenty of practice negotiating these in the past.
