BASOC District Event - Dunachtonmore

Dunachtonmore is the area previously called Craigbui and is a fantastic mix of birch woods, pine plantation and open areas. I ran the Brown course which was 7.3k with 290m of climb and 19 controls. I took 51 minutes and was in 4th place, some 3 minutes behind Steve Nicholson, when I left. I expect that will change as Ben Hartmen, Dave Robertson, Graeme Ackland, Andy Hyslop and a strong contingent from Edinburgh University were all at the event and starting late.

After a string of poor technical races recently, I decided to concentrate on "the process rather than the outcome" - see okansas blogspot for clarification. I found that when I made mistakes at 6 and 12, this helped me put them behind me. Usually I get annoyed with myself, try and make up the time and make more mistakes!

British Relay Championships - Pwll Du

SUNDAY, MAY 06, 2007

I ran last leg in the M40 relay with Duncan Francis and Steve Barrett. Duncan came back 5th at the end of the first leg and Steve brought us up to third. My leg was 5.2k with 115m of climb and 18 controls, and took me 40 minutes. I was passed by Roger Thetford of TVOC just before the last control and finished third. WCOC won and a strong SYO team managed to get themselves disqualified.

Pwll Du and Blorenge is an area of mine-worked moorland to the south west of Abergavenny. I ran M50L which was 8.1k with 225m of climb and 24 controls. I had a poor technical race, lost a lot of time near the end of the course and finished second in 59 minutes - 1 minute behind John Rye of RMOC.

WCOC Regional Event - Harrop Tarn

The long journey was worth it as the Lake Ditrict was fantastic today - clear, sunny and warm! So too, was Harrop Tarn - an area I have run in once or twice before, but not in the last decade; or possibly two!

I ran M50L which was 6.2k with 260m of climb and 18 controls, and which took me 47 minutes. I had a good run, apart from losing a couple of minutes going to the penultimate control.

CLYDE Mass-Start Race - Mugdock Country Park

Mugdock is a Country Park to the north of Glasgow, and is a mix of wood and moor land. The Mass-Start Race was 6.2k with 17 controls and took me 40 minutes.

Dave Robertson lead from the start, with Donald Petrie, Malcolm Patterson and Caspian Richards battling it out for the next 3 places. I had a good race with Helen Palmer (- who was using the event as preparation for next weekends 10mila!), only just managing to finish in front of her.

MAROC Local Event - Creag Choinnich

Creag Choinnich is a steep and in places, heathery, area on the edge of Braemar. I ran the Green (longest) course which was 3.8k with 150m of climb and 9 controls, and which took me 29 minutes. Given the short distance, I decided to try and run hard; but found my navigation couldn't keep pace, resulting in a lot of small misses.
