Loch Vaa was first used for orienteering for the World Championships Relay in 1999. Like Achlean, it has numerous moraines and offers a sustained technical challenge.
I ran M45L which was 7.2k with 145m of climb and 22 controls. I took 51 minutes - a time which left me trailing Donald Petrie of CLYDE by some 3 minutes! I lost time by going too far east and being hesitant into 11, and by not simplifying 19; but can't account for 3 minutes!

ECKO 11 Person relay - Achlean

On a sunny Saturday in Speyside, I ran the 4th of 5 legs (legs 2, 3 and 4 each had 3 runners!) which was light green standard and 3.1k with 70 m of climb, and 10 controls. The course took me 19 minutes. Fraser Purves set off in first place on the last leg for FVO, but had only a minutes lead over Oleg Chepelin from EUOC, which wasn't enough to keep the students at bay! Nonetheless, our second place did mean we gained revenge over CLYDE; who narrowly beat us at this years Harvester.

Hi Donald,
re stile between 2 and 3 - the start official told me (and I heard them saying the same to the person who started a minute before me) that the stiles weren't compulsory. Just as well you went via one - or you'd have been even further in front!
