Lakes 5 Days - Day 2 - Graythwaite (northern part)

M45L was 7.3k with 320m of climb and 18 controls. I took 69 minutes, losing 2 minutes on the way to 7 and 1 minute on the way to 14.

Having a late start time was a distinct advantage in such a rough and brackeny area. I did a lot of path/ride running, which meant some long detours and some dog legging!

Results.

Hi Martin,

It looks like most people lost time on 7. I had trouble with a small crag, which looked like some boulders on the ground. On the map it was drawn as a crescent at the end of some green 100m west of the marker. I tried to make it fit with some boulders drawn on the map 50m further east. Made lots of other mistakes. Will be doing some heavy duty training in the section left of the road now I have a map, (I need it!).

Hi Andy,

7 was certainly tricky! I contoured out of 6 in an easterly direction, but without realising dropped height and ended up to the north of rough open ca 150m to the NW of the control. I thought the rough open hadn't been mapped, carried-on, but then realised I didn't know where I was. I relocated at the south end of the marsh (running north - south) ca 100m to the north of the control.

Donald Petrie ran a safe route by going south out of 6, then following the ride and "white corridor" to 7!
