Xtremor - Mala Lazna - July 14th - 16th, 2009

The Xtremor event, which was organised a few days after the 5 Days of Dolomites and only a few hours drive away, was the catalyst for me to make my first visit to Slovenia, a small country with 2 million people and lots of superb forests.

The organisation was low key, but friendly; with the emphasis being on the things that matter - good forests, good maps and good planning!

The event was another opportunity to catch up with friends and I spent some time chatting with Milan based orienteer, Marco Givannini, whose blog reports on Italian orienteering events, written in both Italian and English.

In the absence of an M50 class, I ran M45. The courses were short, but their technicality, especially on days 1 and 2 when the terrain was described as extreme karst; more than compensated for the lack of distance!
